Moutain Series

The first race of the USATF-NE Grand Prix Mountain Series was last Sunday- Sleepy Hollow 10 k outside of Burlington. , VT.

The weather was a little warm,72 , but overall good with a breeze .

The course was trail on a ski slope on grass, mud , dirt , trail and more grass.

Loved it. Ups and down and then a few stretches of flat path . Mainly shaded.

I took off too slowly conserving energy , but I felt good the whole race . No leg or glute issues which have been plaguing me this year . Energy high , I felt I could of ran the course again at the end....
A good sign. I racked up some good points towards the series and placed in the top 20, I ll take it . Hill training 3 ties weekly had increased my strength along with core work .

I have 6 more Mountain races this summer including MT. Washington in June, my fav from 2014, uphill for 7 miles .

VT marathon this Sunday.

Karhu Trainer Review

I tried out the new Karhu Flow 3 Trainers late last week- they are on my feet now.

Bright orange for the women's model, gorgeous for spring. I love the lightness of the shoe overall , great for indoor treadmill miles and speed work on the track.

7.4 oz in weight

I have used mine for tempo miles leading up to a marathon and the rocker inside the shoe, hugged my ankles perfectly

Recommended for miles and speed workouts for short durations- light, flexible and responsive.

Getting road ready

After snow and snow in Boston this winter, my training has been mainly inside on the treadmill
I finally feel I am starting to get my 'race' legs back for road racing. I am hopeful the upcoming months I shall be able to run outside daily!

I ran a 13.1 training race in Michigan Sunday. Mainly dirt roads, hills, and gravel . Very hard footing .

Very cold - 16 at the start. Totally froze!!!!

I ran even and felt fairly good - good prep for 2 rivers marathon this Sunday.

AG win) which was cool!

Best to run with my friends

getting stronger, not up to par yet

First Race of the Season

New Bedford 13.1

Weather perfect at 38 degrees, overcast , although wind picked up at the end.

Hilly course with a mile  long  hill at mile 11-12, ))

As this was my first outside race of the year and only third outdoor long run of the year, I started very conservative

I felt good at mile four so I picked it up to my MP.

Mojo in. Having fun at a race again!
This was my goal.
Finished in Negative Split and had a great two mile cool down with my team.

Two Rivers Championship marathon in 2 weeks. Goal marathon. This is in PA

The first week of April will be Charlottesville VA marathon
Excited

Reduced miles and better nutrion these

Winter in MA

Tips for indoor running

I have been able to maintain my 80-85 miles a week even in this snowy weather! I have my 24 hour gym and have become good friends with the treadmill. I do 9-12 miles in the morning , then an easy 2-4 after work outside.
My shoes for the treadmill are my Karhu Flow lights
www.karhurunning.com

In order to get through the workouts I create mantras. I also use these in my races so this is good practice! Some of my favorites are:
" you  got this",  " this too shall pass",  " you are trained",  " it is just running ". I practice these in my speed and tempo workouts on the treadmill when I get a little tired or my concentration wanes.
I also count backwards 3-2-1 for each set of miles, this is also a marathon strategy. More practice before the race and race day dawns easier. I think of my time goals for my upcoming race and use visualization of myself cruising along and in winning the race, I try to place myself at the race location and envision the scenery and temperature.
I listen to music most of the time and love techno - old school mixes and German deep techno! My husband is a DJ and plays at underground parties and in Detroit) this music also motivated me and I have a favorite mix for my marathons!
This winter has been difficult , but I have priority for my miles and speed workouts. My coach has my schedule up weekly and I follow the posted workout without question. Coach knows best !
An Amrita bar is my post workout snack then I have a grainy toast with peanut butter an hour later. Perfect morning!

My next race is the IMS Arizona Marathon February 15th . Excited for a solid race.  www.amritahealthfoods.com
